After more than 3,000 episodes, 19 seasons, several toxic allegations and a devastating interview with Dakota Johnson, the “Ellen DeGeneres Show” is finally over.
Closing the historic chapter of TV history in the day, host Ellen DeGeneres greeted her tearful audience on Thursday with a final episode featuring Pink, Billy Elish and the show’s first guest Jennifer Aniston.
In her opening monologue, Emotional Degeneres represents the start of a talk show as friends, family and wife Portia de Ross watch from the crowd.
“I left here 19 years ago and said this is the start of a relationship. And now is not the end of the relationship, it is a smaller break. You can now watch other talk shows. “I might see other viewers occasionally,” he said at the beginning of the episode, which was shot last month.
Touching on the innovative nature of the lesbian presenting a national syndicated talk show, DeGeneres recalled that initially “very few stations were willing to buy the show.”
“Nobody thought it would work.“ Not because it’s a different kind of show, but because I’m different, ”he said, noting that he couldn’t say“ gay ”in the early days of the show.
“Sure, I can’t say wife. This is because gay marriage is not legal. “And now I always say wife,” he continued as De Rossi exploded from the audience. “Twenty-five years ago, they canceled my sitcom because they didn’t want the lesbian to be in prime time once a week. So I said, “Well, I’m going to be there in the sun, what can I say about it?”
DeGeneres then mentioned the “beautiful, beautiful journey”, which brought millions of people to smile and “changed someone’s life”, calling the show “the greatest experience I’ve ever had beyond my imagination” .
He closed the segment by asking Stephen “tWitch” the boss to “dance me one last time”.
The dance continued where Aniston appeared on the show 20 times throughout the series. Based on his experience of parting with his favorite TV show, the former member of “Friends” provided some wisdom on how he handles the final moments of his TV series.
“Well, I broke up and did therapy, and then I made a movie called‘ Breakup ’,” he said. “I just opened it to the end.”
Then there were Eiley and Pink, who both shared fond memories of DeGeneres ’visit over the years.
“You started this show a year after I was born,” Eiley recalls. “She is always at my house. Everyday. I will go to the kitchen and my mother will look at you ”.
In the final moments of the episode, which describes the start of the show for the first time, DeGeneres returns to the stage to thank his band before delivering the final message to the audience.
“If I’ve been doing anything in the past 19 years, I hope the inspiration is your head, your true personality,” DeGeneres said. “And if anyone has the courage to tell you who they are, be brave to support them, even if you don’t understand them. They will show you who they are and this is the best gift anyone can give you. By opening your heart and mind, you will become more empathetic and compassion is what makes the world a better place.
“Thank you so much for joining me on this journey,” he concludes as he walks back onto the stage and sits on the sofa in front of the TV. “I feel love and I will send you.”
After looking at the camera one last time, DeGeneres turned off the TV and the stage doors closed behind him as people cheered.
