5 Things That Don’t Make Sense About ‘Abracadabra’

Launched three decades ago, find out what doesn’t make sense until today in ‘Abracadabra’

The Winfred sisters, Sarah and Mary Sanderson, are the witches of the city of Salem who, after being resurrected thanks to the black flame candle, bring chaos to the lives of Max Dennison, his younger sister, Dani, and her new friend, Allison, since the children try to prevent them from obtaining immortality in ‘Abracadabra’, a film released in 1993 under the direction of Kenny Ortega.

The plot that became a Disney classic and received a sequel in 2022, presents some unlikely situations and others that are difficult to find any logic, as Screenrant found. With that in mind, RECREIO has put together a list of 5 things that don’t make sense in ‘Abracadabra’ below.

1. Thackery not telling his parents everything

Thackery Binx

Farm boy Thackery Binx was cursed by the Sanderson sisters, causing him to live for eternity as a black cat. Even though he was in the skin of a cat, Binx could talk, as his dialogues with the Dennisons and Allisons prove, so why did he never say anything to his parents about what happened?

It is worth remembering that he even tried, since after the public trial of the three witches, Binx is seen at the scene and soon after prowling and meowing around his father, who ends up kicking the pussy away, not knowing that, in fact, that it was his son. But why did he meow and not speak? Is there something about the curse that prevents it? The explanation is not revealed in the film.

2. Winfred know current details

The three witches of Salem were born in the 17th century, where cars did not yet exist, much less traffic laws similar to the ones we have today. Therefore, the scene in which Windfred chases the children on her broom as they flee in a car becomes a failure, as she says to Max: “Pull over! Let me see your driver’s license!”, and when the boy swerves , she asks, “Resisting arrest?” making an allusion to the rules that exist today.

3. Emily Binx Can’t Resist The Sandersons

In the first appearance of the Sandersons, they had kidnapped Emily Binx, as they had the objective of creating a spell to take away the girl’s youth and life. However, at no point does Emily show discomfort with the situation, or try to resist the witches’ plan, which is strange, since the other children who could be the sisters’ next victims really fight for their freedom.

There is a theory that states that Emily was in a trance thanks to the voice of the witch Sarah, but the information has never been confirmed.

4. Thackery know the story of Billy & Winifred

Thackery Binx tells the children on the cemetery visit that Billy Butcherson was Winifred’s boyfriend who had his mouth sewn up for good after the witch caught him sleeping with his sister, Sarah. However, Thackery was cursed and shortly thereafter the Sandersons ceased to exist. So how could he know about the romance between Billy and Winfred?

5. Eternal ingredients?

Three hundred years after their death, the Sandersons return to life and the house where they practiced the most different curses and spells. What is strange is that they try to recreate the same spell that would give them youth, and find in the place all the ingredients they needed for such an act, even though three centuries have passed and their former residence has been transformed into a museum.
