“I’ve been dressed almost exclusively by Nicolas Ghesquière for a very long time. I met him when he was still at Balenciaga, before he became the artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s women’s collections. He is very much a cinephile and has invited several actresses whose films he liked to his parades. For my part, I would never have dared to go to him, even if I knew and liked his fashion. Ever since I wore one of her dresses, I never thought about going anywhere else. It’s a bit like the architect Mies van der Rohe. there is line superiority and less is more, although he also knows how to create extremely impressive items. But I remain convinced that it is much more difficult to do something with a minimum than to do a lot.
Does habit make a monk? Obviously. Whether you want to impress or go unnoticed, clothing is a tool, a weapon, a pleasure, a defense.
Marina Fois
Nicholas has been dressing me for about fifteen years and I wear his creations in my life for as long as red carpets. He is sometimes said to have a cerebral fashion sense, but what is less said, and which is nevertheless obvious, is that his fashions cater to many different women, and therefore many different bodies. Another important thing is that at the end of the creative process, he makes clothes and not the outfits a skirt is a skirt, a sweater, a sweater, and her jackets, the most beautiful in the world, jackets. Does habit make a monk? Obviously. Whether you want to impress or remain inconspicuous, clothing is a tool, a weapon, pleasure, protection, it’s a lot. Fashion is interesting from all points of view.
Nikola taught me a lot. He taught me to look, he taught me things about myself too. He is also a tremendous colorist. And it is not given to everyone. the sense of colors belongs to children or great artists. He can mix non-existent colors and get something extraordinary. Her style and fashion fascinates me. The crazy thing is that I don’t get pissed off about anything, not even to an unimaginable degree. I’m just as excited to go to the parade as I am to the theater production of my favorite director. My curiosity is never satisfied. I like sewing like carpentry. I’m interested in the production of things, I like to see how we can transform them.

“Despite my Italian roots, I think Asia is my favorite part of the world. Japanese, Korean, Thai or Chinese gastronomy, as different as they are, is all about elegance and lightness. I would always prefer chili and miso over fresh cream. Always. I prefer good udon than carbonara. My culinary life is in Asia, you won’t take me any other way. I must say, however, that Asian cuisine is very difficult to prepare. there’s always an ingredient missing and you need a technical skill that I don’t have, even though I’m very successful with sake-glazed salmon.”

“Although it’s my first time in Seoul, I don’t feel like a complete stranger here. i have watched enough korean movies to recognize some things, very nice feeling. I like Bong Joon Ho, Park Chan Wook, and the last movie I saw was About Kim So-hee, by July Jung. Architecturally, a very urban side of the Tokyo style is evident, with this amazing, characteristic mix of ancient temples rising out of the concrete in the middle. These many styles that merge or clash attract me, fascinate me, even what I prefer. My grandfather was an architect and had two models: Carlo Scarpa and Mies van der Rohe. I think I’m genetically wired to like it, it’s not a free choice, I’m programmed to like it, and that’s what I like the most. The Dongdaemun Design Plaza where I took the photo (see above) was designed by Zaha Hadid. Very beautiful is this art of putting curves into straight lines. In addition, the different materials that make up the building create a massing or airy effect, which, one might guess, must vary according to the hours and the light. It’s wonderful.”

“If you ignore history and the elders, it doesn’t really make sense. The modern feeds on the past. What I love about Asian cities are the dead temples amidst the traffic and hustle and bustle. I really like these binoculars because I like to admire centuries of know-how. And I never get tired of the sight of women in traditional dress evolving in an urban landscape with futuristic silhouettes.
