Meet 7 heroes who have animal-inspired powers

Find out which species influenced the creation of these heroes’ powers

1. Spiderman

One of Spider-Man’s powers is climbing walls, just like real-life spiders do. All thanks to the arachnid that gave him these powers! Peter Parker also spins powerful webs. So much so that, in addition to trapping villains, the web keeps them hanging around.

2. Ant-Man

Hank Pym, the first Ant-Man, appeared in the comics in 1962. In the story, he developed a substance that allows him to change his own size to a few millimeters – measures similar to that of a real ant. Even small, he retains the strength of a grown man. In addition, the helmet created by the hero emits mental waves, which makes him able to communicate with ants and control them.

3. Wasp

Janet van Dyne sought Hank Pym’s support when her father was murdered. Over time, he revealed the hero’s identity and proposed that she become a powerful creature to avenge her father. So he implanted Janet with cells corresponding to a Wasp! She also learned to communicate with the animal, as well as having other powers: wings, the ability to shrink a few centimeters and a powerful stinger.

4. Beast Boy

A member of the Teen Titans, he has the power to transform into any animal he has ever seen. Thus, the hero can fly as fast as an eagle and then have the strength of an elephant, for example. The only issue is that, regardless of the transformation, the critter will be green, just like Beast Boy.

5. Wolverine

Known as a glutton, Wolverine is the name, in English, of the animal that inspired the creation of the mutant Wolverine. Although the wolverine is not a super-strong warrior, what they have in common is their short stature, large claws, and the tufts of hair on the sides of their faces.

6. Vixen

Created in 1981 to be the first African superheroine, Mari Jiwe McCabe, Vixen, is able to make direct contact with a field responsible for the development of living beings on Earth. Because of this, she uses the abilities of any animal as long as she stays focused. She is also capable of combining the powers of multiple pets at once.

7. Ninja Turtles

Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphael are the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. But their case is the opposite: they were real turtles that, in contact with a strange substance, transformed themselves into half animal and half human species. They walk on two legs, talk and know martial arts, despite keeping the animal’s body.
