Discover the new location of Ariel’s story in the live-action ‘The Little Mermaid’
The live-action “The Little Mermaid” hit theaters on May 25, and is already a hit with audiences. The Disney princess was played by the actress and singer Halle Baileyin addition to the feature also having other names of weight in the cast, such as Melissa McCarthy, Jonah Hauer-King, Jacob Tremblay, Daveed Diggs, Javier Bardem It is Awkwafina. The remake has some changes compared to the 1989 animation, and one of them is the location where the story takes place. Throughout the film, it is possible to notice this change in some details in the production, such as the population of the island, the dances and even the scenery.
It is worth remembering that, for many people, it was possible to conclude that Disney animation takes place in Denmark, since Hans Christian Andersen, author who created the original tale of “The Little Mermaid”, was Danish. Therefore, Mickey Mouse’s house would have placed the story in Danish lands to honor the author of the tale on which the studio was based.
However, in 2019, Disney publishes a video on the YouTube channel “Disney Princess” confirming that Ariel grew up in the Mediterranean Sea, and that the story takes place in Italy. Check out the video:

The live-action, however, takes place in the waters of a fictional island in the Caribbean, with the information being confirmed by Disney itself on its website. On the other hand, even if the company had not confirmed this detail, the entire film would indicate that this is the new location of the plot – in addition to the change fitting in perfectly with the proposal of this new version of Ariel’s story.
But even with the plot taking place in the Caribbean around the 1830s, some scenes were recorded in Sardinia, an Italian island. The moments on the beach, on the horseback ride and in the street market were filmed in Italy.
