Check out some of the reasons to go watch the live-action of ‘The Little Mermaid’ that arrives this week in theaters
The live-action “The Little Mermaid” hits theaters next Thursday, the 25th, and is one of the most anticipated films by Disney fans. Therefore, Recreio brought 5 reasons to convince you to watch this new production from Mickey Mouse, in addition to increasing the anxiety of those who are counting down the days to see the feature.
SPOILER ALERT!
1. Nostalgia
The first reason to watch Disney’s new live-action movie is simply the fact of seeing one of the studio’s classics in a new light. The production is very reminiscent of the 1989 animation, in addition to having a small participation of Jodi Bensonthe original voice actress for Ariel in the animated feature.
2. Changes
As with Disney’s other live-action films, there are some changes to the story. However, in this case, the changes make perfect sense and even answer some questions that the animation left in the fans.
Some of the changes do not directly affect the story, but make the film even more complete and interesting in the eyes of the older public, who first fell in love with animation, and now have the chance to fall under the charms of the new version of the mermaid story. However, even with all the changes, the essence of the production remains the same.
3. Songs
“The Little Mermaid” has become a Disney classic mainly because of its songs, which could not be left out of the live-action. Of the eight songs present in the animation, six are remaining in the remake, which makes the audience want to sing along with the characters.
It is worth remembering that there are some changes in the lyrics of two songs, which are “Poor Unfornatunate Souls” (in Portuguese, “Corações Infelizes”) and “Kiss the Girl” (in Portuguese, “Beije a Moça”). The changes, however, are very subtle, and almost impossible to notice, but they fit perfectly with the film’s new proposal.
Another point that makes the songs become impeccable is the presence of Alan Menken It isLin-Manuel Mirandain the production of the soundtrack. While Menken returns to this universe, since he was also responsible for creating the songs in the animation, Miranda composed three new and exclusive songs for the feature.

4. Halle Bailey
One of the high points of the live-action is the performance of Halle Baileylike Ariel. The actress and singer presents a more empowered version of the princess, without leaving aside all the determination and sweetness known to the mermaid. She rocks on vocals, making the songs even better in her voice – and it is necessary to highlight “Part of Your World” (“Part of Your World”, in Portuguese), where we actually see the character’s dream to know the human world.
5. Cast
And it’s not just Halle who succeeds in his role. The entire cast of the film makes the audience fall in love with the characters even more. The main highlights go to Melissa McCarthywhich shows all the acidic humor of the villain Ursula and confirms a theory that has existed among Disney fans for years, and Jonah Hauer-Kingwhich features a more sensitive Eric and has a musical solo to call his own.
Another character that stands out and brings a more comic side to the story is Sabidão, who despite being male in animation, is voiced by the actress in the live-action. Awkwafina.
