What are the gods that exist in the MCU?

It’s not just Norse deities that Marvel movies survive on; Find out which gods inhabit this universe!

Gods can be defined as super powerful creatures capable of creating universes, or even decimating populations, in addition to the fact that some of them can be worshiped by humans due to their great majesty. In this case, as fiction often imitates reality, several of these entities served as inspiration for the creation of characters that exist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, such as the Norse, Egyptian and Greek deities.

Still, there are celestial beings created exclusively for the universe of superheroes, as with the Eternals and the Celestials, as well as other important figures who, despite not holding the title, could easily be seen as Gods.

If you need to remember the names of these beings of enormous power, or if you want to know who they all are, don’t worry, we’ve separated them all in the list below. Check out!

Nordics

With Thor’s trips to Asgard, the dimension that houses Gods, Giants, Dwarves, Elves, Trolls and Demons, the public was able to become familiar with the presence of Norse deities in Marvel cinematographic productions from an early age, thus meeting beings like Odin, Loki , Hela, Sif, Frigga, Heimdall, Tyr and Bor.

These Gods have human physical characteristics, but the similarities with the inhabitants of the earth end there, since their powers surpass the line of normality, as is the case of super strength, or the control of mystical energies.

However, despite being worshiped on Earth for their incredible abilities, there is a contradiction in the studio’s works, as sometimes they are described as descendants of the Ancestral Gods, and sometimes they gain a completely different definition, being mentioned as an alien race that has scientific abilities. advanced and incomprehensible to humans.

Egyptians

Unlike the Nordics, the Egyptian Gods took a while to be seen in ‘flesh and blood’ in Marvel stories, having their first appearances in the ‘Moon Knight’ series, released in 2022 on Disney +, through Khonshu, Ammit and Taweret. Still, these deities can use human avatars to perform their manifestations, as was the case with Hathor, Osiris, Tefnut, Horus and Isis.

It is worth remembering that these entities live far from humanity and obey their own set of rules that can even punish the Gods themselves by turning them into small statues, as seen in the production.

Still, even though audiences didn’t see her visual presence, Bast, Egyptian Goddess of Cats, was mentioned as the main deity of Wakanda in Black Panther, being their Panther Goddess.

Greeks

The Greek Gods have yet to make their official appearance in the MCU, however, could have their first glimpse in the trailer for “Thor: Love and Thunder”, since in one of the scenes, Zeus appears holding his thunderbolt on Olympus. Check it out above at minute 1:32!

eternal

Considered a race of almost divine beings, the Eternals coexist with humanity since the beginning of time, since they were created by the Celestials to protect the Earth from great threats until a new celestial could be born and feed on this energy.

Marking their presence for the first time in the self-titled film, the Eternals are seen by humans as deities over the centuries, even inspiring several legends, and even the belief in Egyptian Gods, as is the case of Thena, who was commonly described as the Goddess Athena.

celestials

Being first mentioned in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’, the Celestials made their first appearance in ‘The Eternals’, where their powers could actually be seen.

These extremely powerful cosmic Gods have influenced Earth events and humanity’s evolutionary processes since its inception. However, the reason for this interference is unknown.

Holding the incredible power of creation, they developed the Eternals, a race that was sent to Earth to stop another of their inventions, the Deviants, who are modified beings that did not work out very well.

Untitled Gods?

dormammu

There are deities that may not have been classified in the MCU, as mentioned by CBR. Among them, The One Who Remains, the variant of Kang, can fit the definition of a divine being, as he is responsible for controlling the timeline in ‘Loki’.

In ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’, there are two entities that directly interfere in the events seen on Earth, such as the Great Protector and the Dweller of Darkness.

In addition, Dormammu, the villain seen in ‘Doctor Strange’ could also join the list, as he is the supreme being of his dimension, in addition to being able to corrupt other realities.

Finally, there is Surtur, from ‘Thor: Ragnarok’, who was able to decimate the entire population of Asgard using only his powers.
