Should we trust our grandmother’s advice, Pinterest tips, or our own common sense? If you can’t decide, here’s a little reminder to tape to the fridge door.

Foods to store in the refrigerator

Egg. Although eggs are hotly debated, science has decided. they keep much better in the fridge.
Coffee. place the coffee on top of the fridge and its essences will degrade less quickly. But it’s best to keep it… in the fridge.
Jam: when the jar is open or the jam is unsweetened, go to the refrigerator.
Olives. your olives will keep better in the fridge door after opening.
Syrup. Starting with mint or grenadine, syrups should preferably be chilled to retain all their flavors.
Vegetables. artichokes, asparagus, eggplant, broccoli, carrots, mushrooms, zucchini, lettuce… all love the cold. Only a few exceptions tolerate room temperature well: avocado, tomato or pumpkin.

Foods stored at room temperature

Tomato. become contaminated when exposed to cold. We leave them in the open air, but protected from light (ideally in a paper bag).
Mustard. purists prefer room temperature mustard; it will lose its flavor in the refrigerator. But some amateurs believe that the cold retains its spiciness.
Ketchup. if refrigerating the ketchup helps it last a little longer, it’s not a commitment either.
Fruits. except for a few types such as grapes or red fruits, room temperature is fully recommended. Citrus fruits, bananas, kiwis, melons, apples or pears can therefore thrive outdoors. The only advantage of the refrigerator. it allows for longer storage.
Dry sausage. to store your dry sausage the traditional way, it is best to hang it in a dry and ventilated place.
Basilik. basil leaves burn when exposed to cold. We leave them outside, the stems in the water, like a bouquet.
Onions, garlic and chives. these three spices will prefer to be stored in a dry place away from light.
Potatoes. The best place to store potatoes is in a dry but not too hot place, and above all, away from light.
