It’s official that Katy Perry and Lionel Richie will headline the King Charles III Coronation Concert on May 7th. Also present will be Freya Ridings, Alexis French, as well as Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli or Welsh baritone Sir Bryn Terfel, promising an eclectic mix of music. Note also the participation of the boy band Take That in its original form, i.e. without Robbie Williams. An amateur choir of lifeguards, taxi drivers and reggae bands will perform on stage, in addition to a virtual choir featuring Commonwealth representatives.
This keynote show will be broadcast on BBC ONE, BBC iPlayer, BBC Radio 2 and BBC Sounds. “The concert will mark a new chapter in the nation’s history with themes of love, respect and optimism, celebrating the four nations, their communities and the Commonwealth,” the UK public broadcaster said. This event will be the culmination of three days of celebrations across the UK.
Katy Perry and Lionel Richie, who are both judges on the show american idol, have a long-standing relationship with the British royal family. The 38-year-old singer, for example, was the ambassador of the British Asian Trust, co-founded by Prince Charles. “Sharing the stage with the other Coronation Concert artists is a once-in-a-lifetime event, and it will be an honor and a celebration,” Lionel Richie said in a statement.

The coronation of Charles III has so far caused little excitement across the Channel. So far, several British stars, including Elton John, Adele, Ed Sheeran and Harry Styles, have turned down the monarch’s invitation. The event was mostly talked about because of the tension in the royal family. If Prince Harry confirms his arrival, his wife Meghan will stay in the United States with the couple’s two children, according to Buckingham Palace.
