Pennsylvania Deputy Governor John Fetterman (D) announced Sunday that he was hospitalized after a stroke during his U.S. Senate campaign.
The 52-year-old, in a statement posted on social media and in a video message, said he was “on the path to full recovery” and did not expect his hospitalization to hinder his election campaign on Tuesday before primaries begin in Pennsylvania.
“The good news is I feel better and the doctors told me I don’t have a mental disability. I’m on track to complete recovery. So, I’m very grateful,” the statement read.
I didn’t feel well on Friday, so I went to the hospital for a checkup.

Fetterman said he went to the hospital Friday to come out at his wife’s call after it didn’t feel good. There doctors determined he had a stroke due to a heart thrombus caused by a long period of atrial fibrillation.
Atrial fibrillation, also known as Afib, is an irregular heartbeat that can cause blood to collect in the chambers of the heart and the formation of blood clots. According to the Mayo Clinic.
“The amazing doctors here were able to remove the thrombus quickly and completely, to reverse the stroke, they also checked my heart.“ It’s a good reminder to listen to your body and know the signs, ”he said. in a statement.
