Taylor Swift couldn’t help but use her Eras tour to highlight the “brilliant” work of fellow songwriter Lana Del Rey, who released her ninth album Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd on Friday.
Swift, who collaborated with Del Rey on a song from “Midnights,” praised the singer’s new album as “amazing” in front of a sold-out crowd at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Variety reported.
“It’s just extraordinary. I think it’s the best we’ve got,” Swift said while sitting at the piano on stage.
“He knows I’m obsessed with her and he was kind enough to do a song with me on ‘Midnights’ called ‘Snow on the Beach’ because he’s a generous king. And she did it for me, and I’ll never forget how good she was to me,” she continued.
Swift, who encouraged fans to support Del Rey’s project, used the shout-out to get into their collaboration.
The singer-songwriter admitted that Del Rey wasn’t there and joked that fans were “blocked” by her.
Swift has openly admired Del Rey’s work in the past.
In 2019, Swift named Del Rey one of her favorite artists of the ’90s and noted that the singer received harsh criticism early in her career.
“And then slowly but surely, she became, in my opinion, the most influential female artist in pop,” Swift said during her acceptance speech for the Woman of the Decade Award at Billboard’s 2019 Women in Music event.
“His vocal stylings, his lyrics, his aesthetic – they’ve been repeated and reused in every corner of the music.”
While Del Rey didn’t appear alongside Swift on Friday, the singer-songwriter brought another top musician to the Vegas stage.
Swift surprised fans with a cameo from Mumford & Sons’ Marcus Mumford on Saturday.
Swift performed her “Evermore” album, “Cowboy Like Me” with Mumford, who contributes vocals to the track.
Swift is set to continue her Eras Tour with openers Muna and Gayle on Friday in Arlington, Texas.
