Released in 1989, “The Little Mermaid” is one of Disney’s greatest classics. The film was responsible for saving Disney from an extremely complicated period, which was established shortly after the death of walt disney in 1966, being popularly known by fans as the Bronze Age, or Dark Era.
During that time, the studio faced problems with the narrative structure in the productions, in addition to presenting a new form of animation that was not very well received by the public. As a result, titles like “Aristocats”, “The Hound and the Fox”, “The Black Cauldron” and “The Adventures of Winnie the Pooh” ended up being box office failures, sending Disney into an economic crisis.
However, everything changed with the arrival ofThe Little Mermaid” in 1989, marking the end of this turbulent era, and beginning the grand Renaissance Era, one of the most popular and beloved by fans.
The production was inspired by a work created by the writer Hans Christian Andersen and, in its original tale, it has some details very different from those we are used to.

As echoed by the Cinebuzz portal, in its first version, it is said that Ariel decided to make a deal with Úrsula to be able to live in the world of humans after discovering that their souls are eternal and, in this way, wants to find the man who saved her from drowning, the Prince Eric, and marry him.
The villain ends up complying with the request, however, she makes it clear to the mermaid that with each step she takes while she is in the land of humans, she will feel an extremely strong pain, as if she were stepping on knives. But the pain doesn’t stop there: while on the surface, Eric ends up falling in love with another girl, breaking Ariel’s heart.

Now, she faced a huge impasse: if she didn’t get the man’s love, she would become sea foam, and the only way to reverse this situation would be to kill the prince. However, the princess chooses to spare her lover’s life, and accepts her fate. Soon after, she learns that, before receiving her own soul, she will live for 300 years as a helping spirit of humans.
