John Oliver said Donald Trump’s latest video contains a description that may reveal a little more than the former president intended.
In the clip, Trump repeats a boast he’s made at recent events about helping family farms, including a bogus claim that he’s “eliminated the death tax” on farms (he actually increased the exemption).
Trump, in his new video, says that farmers who love their children can leave their farm to them “and they won’t have to pay taxes.”
Then he went off on a weird tangent.
“But if you don’t love your kids that much — and there are some people who don’t, and maybe deservedly so — it doesn’t matter because frankly, you don’t have to leave them anything,” Trump said. . . “Thank you so much, have fun.”
“He still has it,” Oliver replied. “And by ‘her’ I mean whatever is so deeply wrong with her brain. Do you know how much you have to hate your kids to be distracted by that thought in the middle of a political speech?”
The “Last Week Tonight” host offered a poignant example: “We should have pulled the troops out of the region sooner. Speaking of regrets not retiring sooner: Don Jr.”
He noted that the video was shot with two cameras and a section of the film suggests that it was edited.
“They cut something out of it,” he pointed out. “And given what they kept, I can’t wait to find out what it was. And then stick the landing at the end with “are you having fun?” It’s flawless!”
In his longest segment, Oliver looked at the special hell of the limited-time world, especially when it’s virtually impossible for people to get out of many of these contracts.
