Occupied by Jacqueline Kennedy-Onassis after her husband’s assassination in 1963 and then occupied by Miss America, the heritage-listed building has expanded over the years and is now up for sale.
While Kennedy’s vacation villa on the French Riviera was put up for sale a few weeks ago, the former first lady’s residence in Washington, D.C. is now on the market. The house where Jackie Kennedy took refuge for a year after her husband’s assassination can actually be bought for about $26.5 million (€24.8 million). According to Sotheby’s agency responsible for the sale, if it sells for this price, it will become the most expensive property sold in Washington.

Historic property
Jackie Kennedy buys the 1790s home in December 1963, a week after moving out of the White House. She stayed there for just a year, then fled with the children to New York after the property became a tourist attraction. Then it was Yolande Bethbeze Fox, Miss America 1951, who redeemed her.
If at that time the building was 650 m², now its area is 1514 m² after the addition of the adjoining houses. The menu includes 13 rooms, a gym, underground parking and several terraces facing the Washington Monument.
The luxury of the old, the luxury of the new
Inside the main house, the entrance and first floor have preserved the authenticity of the Jackie Kennedy era. The paneled library, fireplaces and even the gold-leafed ceiling are authentically dated. On the other hand, the master bedroom on the first floor has all the modern conveniences: huge dressing rooms and spacious bathrooms between the spa and the bathroom.
