Almost four years after the death of Karl Lagerfeld, the world’s most famous designer and the artistic director of Chanel for three decades will be resurrected from the ashes by K. Kaiser Karl, a six-episode miniseries. Inspired by the biopic of the same name written by journalist Raphael Baque, developed by Disney +, produced by Gaumont and Jour Premier, this biopic looks forward to the world of fashion. While the streaming platform’s release date is still unknown, its ambitious “haute couture” cast was just revealed this Thursday, March 9, via a press release from Disney+.
International cast

The series will also explore the rivalry between Karl Lagerfeld and Pierre Bergé, Yves Saint Laurent partner Alex Lutz (boy), as well as her affair with Jacques de Bascher as Théodore Pellerin (Underground, Watchdog, Just the end of the world). Next to them we will also find the actress Agnes Jauy (In therapy, like an airplane, “The taste of others.”) who will play Gabi Aghion, the founder of the Chloé label who became famous for Karl Lagerfeld.
Another biopic is in the works
In addition to the rivalries and ego battles in the world of haute couture, this production will also depict the epic parties, tragic loves and friendships that marked the life of the legendary couturier. Directors Jerome Salle and Audrey Estrugo will be behind the camera.
So far, the series is being shot in France, Monaco and Italy. Kaiser Karl will bring together more than 2,200 extras on the screen, which will be developed in more than 40 different collections, according to a press release. A total of 3,000 dresses will appear, including 160 created entirely by the couture workshops working for the series.
