For the first time since 1987, Americans bought more records last year than vinyl What CDaccording to the recording industry data released on Thursday.
A total of 41 million CDs have been sold. vinyl compared to 33 million CDaccording to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), the US association that represents most record labels.
Overall, record sales revenue reached $1.7 billion in 2022, up 4% from the previous year.
The attraction of collectors and nostalgics contributed to the fact that the circulation of records vinyl will exceed CD in 2020, but for the first time in more than three decades, older records have sold more than compacts.
Streaming leads the market
Nevertheless, streaming music continues to lead the market. These services, including paid subscriptions and advertising platforms, grew 7% to reach $13.3 billion in revenue, or 84% of the total.
Paid subscriptions alone — 92 million people — topped $10 billion for the first time.
