5 Things That Don’t Make Sense About ‘Operation Cupid’

Released in 1998, “Operation Cupid” is one of Disney’s great successes of the 90’s. Lindsay Lohanis a remake of the film of the same name released in 1961, also by Walt Disney Pictures.

The plot tells the story of Hallie Parker and Annie James, two girls who end up discovering that they are twins at a summer camp and were raised separately by their parents after divorce. After finally discovering the truth, they band together and switch places in order to bring their family back together.

However, despite being a classic, the film has some moments that don’t make the slightest sense – and we’ll tell you five of them. Check out!

1. The separation of the twins

Perhaps one of the main points of “Operation Cupid” that doesn’t make any sense is the idea of each parent staying with one of the twins after the divorce. In addition to not being healthy, they also spent years without seeing one of their daughters, and preventing them from knowing about the existence or meeting their own sister.

2. Camp pranks

Before discovering that they are sisters, Annie and Hallie did not get along, and performed numerous pranks against each other during the camp. But for many days, they managed to remain unharmed and not get caught—even putting furniture on roofs, breaking into huts, hanging large buckets of liquid, scattering flour, and much more. How did preteen girls manage to accomplish all of this without the help of someone bigger? The film does not explain.

3. How Nick and Elizabeth Didn’t Notice the Changes

Despite being identical twins, Annie and Hallie have very different personalities, which ended up being evident during the exchange – such as the fact that Annie speaks very “straight”, and Hallie does not. However, even with these moments, their parents never realized that something was wrong with their own daughters until they themselves revealed everything.

4. Hallie refusing to help Annie

When Annie discovers that Nick is head over heels in love with Meredith and intends to ask for her hand in marriage, the girl immediately calls her sister asking for help to solve the problem – but she refuses because she wants to spend more time with her mother. If their main goal with the exchange was to try to get their parents back, why did Hallie refuse to help when the plan was put in jeopardy?

5. Meredith’s Request

At the end of the film, after Annie and Hallie perform a series of pranks on Meredith, the stepmother loses patience and gives Nick the final card: he would have to choose between her and the girls, stating that, after the wedding, he would send the two to a boarding school in Switzerland. The request, however, makes no sense since the film makes it clear that, after discovering the girls’ plan, Nick and Elizabeth had agreed not to separate from their daughters anymore. The man, logically, ends up choosing the twins, leaving the woman shocked and her ego bruised.
