Julianne Moore. “When I was little, my mother made sure I didn’t spend too much time outside in the sun.”

The heroine of the film Sharper takes on a new role as an ambassador for the Hourglass cosmetics brand. Unvarnished trusts.

For Julianne Moore, wearing quality makeup and ensuring animal welfare should not be two irreconcilable standards. The Oscar-winning actress proves it in the new campaign for Satin Crème lipstick from Hourglass, an American vegan cosmetics brand committed to protecting animal rights. In these photos, she shows that you can have a very red and pigmented mouth without cruelty to animals (the formula contains a vegan substitute for carmine, the red pigment widely used in the cosmetic industry that is produced from thousands of crushed female insects). “With this simple gesture, we already have the opportunity to make a difference,” he says. Before revealing her beauty routine.

Madame Figaro: What style of makeup do you like?
Juliana Moore. I’m lucky to work with professionals who do my makeup better than I do. What I learned from them is that makeup serves to enhance what you already have. In everyday life, if I go out, I will always contour and wear my eyebrows. A little foundation to even out my skin tone. Mascara and some gloss or lipstick. It all depends on what I do with my day.

Madame Figaro: What beauty products do you always carry in your bag?
Juliana Moore. Hourglass Unlocked Satin Crème Lipstick Red 0, a very powerful and bright red color. I always carry a toothbrush and floss. My Biologique Recherche lip balm, which I love, and my sunscreen.

Madame Figaro: The best beauty advice you ever received.
Juliana Moore. Probably to wear sunscreen and stay out of the sun as much as possible. It was passed down to me from my mother. When I was little, she made sure I didn’t spend too much time outside in the sun. I even got to a point where I couldn’t take it anymore. I almost always wear a hat, walk the sidewalk in the shade, and cover up on the beach. It may seem restrictive, but it’s not. I can really see the difference in my skin, so I try to pass this advice on to everyone around me.

Madame Figaro: How do you take care of your red hair?
Juliana Moore. The color I’m wearing now is semi-annual. It does wear, so I have to reapply it more regularly than other hair colors, but I love how the product interacts with my hair. It does not harm them at all and the effect is very natural. Also, my hair is very curly and dry, so I try not to wash it often.

Madame Figaro: What do you like most about yourself?
Juliana Moore. What I love most about my body is that it’s still pretty intact. I still feel physically ‘able’ and that’s something I’ve really appreciated. I can move quickly, I am quite flexible, I have strength. These are all the things that matter most to me.

Madame Figaro: What is your favorite perfume?
Juliana Moore. I’ve been wearing Kiehl’s Musk Eau de Toilette for twenty years, I love it. It smells very good, it is very “clean”. After all these years, this perfume has really become a part of me. I wear it every day.

Madame Figaro: A hairstyle or bold makeup look you’ve been dying to try?
Juliana Moore. I would like to shave my head. It’s crazy, isn’t it? I’m curious to see what that will look like. I know some actresses have already done it, even if it was just for a role. When I was in college, I cut my hair really short and loved it, but the growth was out of control, so I swore to myself I would never do it again. It takes years to grow back, so I don’t know if I’ll start doing it, but I’ve always secretly wanted to test it out to see what it would do.

Madame Figaro: A gesture of beauty that helps you boost your self-confidence.
Juliana Moore. Maybe do my hair because my hair can really get carried away. I know I can feel better just by taking care of my hair. And when you feel good physically, it helps to feel good emotionally.

Madame Figaro: Your sports routine.
Juliana Moore. I have been doing yoga a lot for about twenty years. I started small and it became more and more important in my life. It allows me to relax, clear my mind, wake me up. Due to the pandemic, many of my classes have moved online, which can be difficult, but it’s also great when I’m traveling. I can follow a session with my teacher wherever I am and that gives me consistency. It’s fantastic. I think the best exercise is the one you do, once you find something you like it’s easier to stick with it.

Madame Figaro: Your relaxation ritual after a long day at work.
After dinner I take an epsom salt bath, it’s very relaxing. I will read a book or watch a movie with my husband. And that’s it. I like to spend quiet time at home.

Madame Figaro: Your good beauty addresses.
Juliana Moore. I have two great facialists. Fabricio Ormond in New York, which is really cool. And Theresa Tarmy in London, who I also love. They both use radio frequency. I really see a big difference in my face thanks to them.
