This Wednesday, the 1st, BLACKPINK fans were surprised by the news released by Rolling Stone that the role of jennieon the HBO Max series “The Idol” will be extremely reduced, with only very few lines in the episodes.
“It was three or four lines an episode for her. They didn’t let her say much. Her job was to sit there [e] look pretty, basically,” a source told the magazine.
The information comes in contrast to a statement made by Sam Levinsonone of the showrunners of the series alongside the singer The Weekndwhich drew praise for jennie a few months ago in an interview with Elle Magazine, where she stated that BLACKPINK’s main rapper was very “professional and hardworking”.
“Watching her learn a complete dance routine in about an hour and then perform it perfectly 10 times in a row was amazing, and of course that’s just a small part of her talent and skill,” said Levinson.
But what will Jennie’s role be?
Despite all this repercussion, there is still very little information about the role of the k-pop star in the series. Initially, speculations said by the South Korean media pointed out that jennie would only be a dancer, making a small participation in the production.
However, the information ended up being denied with the arrival of the official teaser, which featured the idol interacting directly with Lily-Rose Deppactress responsible for playing the protagonist of the plot.
Through an article published last year, the American magazine Flaunt also stated that jennie would act as a secondary bisexual character who, according to IMDb, will be called Angel, however, the information has not yet been confirmed by HBO.
Despite all the speculation, the BLACKPINK member has already declared herself extremely anxious for the series. In a statement to South Korean agency Yonhap News, the rapper said: “I found the script very intriguing, so I wanted to be a part of the series. I feel very excited. I will work hard, so please follow me with affection.”
As for working alongside Levinson It is The Weeknd (Abel Tesfaye), the artist revealed that they always gave her advice to calm her down.
“What he said was to just be me. I didn’t try to prepare this perfectly, which I really would. I had many conversations with Sam and Abel and I think that helped me. And they just made sure I didn’t have to be so nervous about things.”
So far, “The Idol” still does not have a premiere date confirmed by HBO Max.
