Released in 2001, “Shrek” was the film responsible for officially propelling DreamWorks to stardom, earning the studio its first Academy Award. The success of the feature was so much that the plot became a franchise, receiving six sequels, numerous shorts, spin-offs, in addition to becoming even a video game.
However, despite its huge success to this day, the story still has some facts that don’t make much sense, and have never been answered, often by fans.
Check out these 5 “Shrek” Moments That Don’t Make Sense!
1. The relationship between Donkey and the Dragon
If you’ve ever watched “Shrek”, you’ve probably wondered at some point how Donkey and the Dragon managed to have babies, who were born half donkey and half dragon. The fact remains one of the biggest mysteries of the franchise, which never gave clear explanations about how this pregnancy happened.
2. Lord Farquaad’s plan to end fairy tales
During the first film, we learn that Lord Farquaad has set up an operation to get all the fairytale beings in the kingdom. The problem is that he himself is living in a fairytale land, living in a castle, commanding a huge army of knights, while asking advice from a magic talking mirror, just like the one in “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”.
3. Donkey is not afraid of Shrek
The franchise makes it clear from the beginning that everyone has a certain fear of ogres, and is terrified of Shrek — except Donkey. While the other beings do their best to stay away from the ogre, the animal never showed any fear for him, but its courage was never explained in the movies.
4. Donkey’s past
In the realm of Far Far Away, everything is based on fairy tales — it’s no wonder that we can find references like Pinocchio, The Three Little Pigs, Sleeping Beauty, and several other classics throughout the franchise. But, if everyone there refers to a story, where is Donkey from? Apparently, nobody knows.
5. How Shrek and Donkey Found Fiona’s Tower
When Donkey and Shrek finally decide to go in search of the tower to find the princess, they have no idea of the location, but even so they continue the journey without having any items to find her. If they live in a fairytale world where towers and castles can be quite common, how did they manage to get there without any help?
