‘If you don’t like it, don’t watch it,’ says Storm Reid on criticism of ‘The Last of Us’

BEWARE OF SPOILERS!

Last Sunday, the 26th, HBO Max released the seventh episode of the series “The Last of Us”, inspired by the game of the same name, where it presented to the public a little more of Ellie’s story (Bella Ramsey), bringing up topics of LGBTQIA+ representation again.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Storm Reidactress responsible for playing the character Riley Abel in the series, commented on the recent prejudiced attacks that the production has been receiving, due to Bill’s relationship (Nick Offerman) and Frank (Murray Bartlett), and Ellie’s sexuality.

“Like Bella [Ramsey] I said when Episode 3 aired, it’s simple, if you don’t like it, don’t watch it,” Storm vented. “We’re telling important stories. We’re telling stories of people’s experiences, and that’s what I’m here for. That’s what makes good storytelling, because we’re telling stories of people who take up space in the world.”

Reid completed his speech by saying that “There are so many other things to worry about in life. Why are you worried that these young people — or anyone — love each other? Love is beautiful, and the fact that people have things to say about it it’s an absurd”.

Set 20 years after the extinction of the human species caused by a devastating virus, ‘The Last of Us’ features Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian) as Joel and Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones) as Ellie in the main cast, and has new episodes every Sunday at 11 pm on the HBO Max streaming platform.
