A Toy Story sequel was confirmed earlier this month after a meeting with Disney and Pixar shareholders.
After confirming the development of ‘Toy Story 5’, a portion of fans of the franchise expressed their dissatisfaction with the news, as they believe that another sequel would not be necessary. Almost in response to this,Pete Doctordirector of Pixar, defended the existence of another film dedicated to the dolls that belonged to Andy.
The statement came during a chat with The Wrap, where doctor explained that the process of creating the stories seen in the four feature films of the franchise end up allowing new perspectives and that there is still much to be explored in the universe of toys that have life.
What we’re really trying to do, and this has been the case for a while now, is we look at them a little bit like, okay, we’re not planning ahead. When we made the first Toy Story, we had no idea there was going to be Toy Story 2. We were just trying to make this movie. But when finished, it takes you to unexpected places, which is what I love about the creative process. If I knew exactly what I was doing when I started making a film, it wouldn’t make sense to do it. I discover a lot along the way.”
In addition, he stated that there are still many possible paths within the story, and that the new plot could surprise the audience or state that: “It has some really fun things that you haven’t seen before.”
The franchise began in 1995 and won its first sequel in 1999. Eleven years later, ‘Toy Story’ received its third film in 2010 and another continuation in 2019. In addition, the story has a spin-off entitled ‘Lightyear ‘, which tells the story of the space ranger who inspired the creation of Andy’s favorite doll.
‘Toy Story 5’ is in the early stages of production. There are still no details about the plot or previews released to the public.
