What does your role consist of?
As the artistic director of the evening, my role is to coordinate the music, sets, texts and sketches of the presenters. Our wishes for this 48e editing? Promote team spirit and good humor. For this, we will try to rise above ourselves, be elegant, free, curious, sparkling and surprise the public with beautiful moments of cinema, such as the awarding of the honorary Cesar by Virginie Efira to David Fincher.
You have chosen the host group yourself.
It was a collective effort. Finally, we are very happy that these actors, actresses and comedians agreed to present the ceremony; task impresses more than one. This diverse group represents what I have always stood for in my cinema and as an audience: the diversity of genres. I like dramas as well as comedies or romantic comedies. The separation of cinema genres should be stopped. all have their place in this art.
What do you think of the Caesars mutation?
Complete equality within the academy was clearly important; it was time for everyone to be represented. In the future, films will always be a priority for me, regardless of whether they are directed by a man or a woman.
What are your greatest memories of Caesars?
Cesar Awarded to Annie Girardo in 1996. I met him in the street that afternoon, he seemed to me very fragile behind his big glasses, all hunched over. Seeing him then on the stage of the Césars and hearing his touching speech (“I don’t know if French cinema missed me, but French cinema missed me. Madly, desperately, painfully”) tore me apart. I was in tears.
How did you feel when Luan, the actress in your movie? Aries family won a César for Best Actress.
It was a suspended moment. I was very happy for him because it is the ultimate reward. Cesar is one of the best for the most promising actor, it embodies the future of cinema.
