Right in the first film, we are introduced to one of the cutest couples in Toy Story: Woody and Betty. The toys that live in Andy’s room have their relationship developed during the franchise’s features, until they end up together in the fourth production – but, did you know that all of this almost didn’t happen?
That’s because, still in the initial scripts of the first film, the cowboy’s romantic partner should be another world famous doll: Barbie. In the version we know, she appears only in the third sequence, however, the initial idea was that the character was there from the beginning.
But why didn’t it happen?
As reflected by the Legião dos Heróis portal, the idea just didn’t work out due to conflicts with Mattel, the company responsible for the rights to the doll, which refused Barbie’s participation in the franchise, as it did not want Pixar to define a personality, since the The idea was to let children have the freedom to project their own personalities onto the doll.
However, after realizing the resounding success of the film, the company ended up releasing the rights not only to Barbie, but also to Ken, the romantic partner of the most famous doll in the world. The couple even starred in a short entitled “Toy Story: Vacation in Hawaii”. Watch!
Despite everything, the characters ended up not returning for the fourth feature of the franchise because they were not relevant to the plot. In addition, earlier this month, Disney confirmed during a meeting with shareholders that it will produce the fifth sequel to Toy Story, still without a release date. Likewise, there are still no indications if Barbie and Ken will return in the new release, or if, at least, the disappearance of the two will be explained in history.
