Berlinale 2023 will be held under the sign of unity with Ukraine

The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky will speak at the opening ceremony of the celebration in the format of a video message.

On Thursday, February 16, the 73rd International Berlin Film Festival begins in Berlin. This year the event will be held under the sign of solidarity with Ukraine in relation to the full-scale war of the Russian Federation.

“Film festivals are places that promote freedom of speech, freedom of expression and peaceful dialogue. Due to the ongoing war of aggression against Ukraine and the courageous protests in Iran, as well as many other region of the world, the Berlinale in 2023 stands even stronger for these democratic values ​​and honors the memory of the victims of war, destruction and oppression around the world,” the film festival said in a statement.

So, as a sign of support for our country, the festival will have a badge in the form of its famous symbol – the Berlinale bear. It is painted in the colors of the Ukrainian flag.

The purpose of such a decision is to provide broad visibility of support for Ukraine.

In addition, at Berlinale it is possible to buy a magnetic Berlinale bear cub, created by Ukrainian artists using the Petrikov painting technique.

The film festival will be held from 16 to 26 February. The award will take place on February 25th.

18 films will participate in the Main Competition.

It will be remembered that at the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival, the audience will see a film about the Russian war in Ukraine, shot by the famous Hollywood actor and director Sean Penn.
