John Oliver reviews an ‘absolutely grotesque’ part of the Super Bowl

“Last Week Tonight” host John Oliver said Monday that he’s a big fan of the Super Bowl in all its “cartoony” glory.

But there’s one part of the process he just can’t stand, and he was reminded of it after the Kansas City Chiefs’ win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.

Appearing on Stephen Colbert’s “Late Show,” Oliver slammed the winning team’s owner hoisting the Vince Lombardi Trophy in front of the players as “grotesque” and “utterly grotesque.”

“The team just won, the coach just coached this team. And you have a goddamn 70-year-old billionaire who’s like, “Oh, I’d like to thank my family for this.” What?” he snapped.

“Your family has nothing to do with this. Nothing, Oliver continued. “You shouldn’t even be on the field. You should be in the executive box, shut up, this should happen.”
