The productions of disney always bring unforgettable characters to the public, among them the princesses Snow White, Ariel and Sleeping Beauty. But, despite starring in the good part of the plots, the villains also make history in the production company’s feature films.
That’s because Disney films have already portrayed countless antagonists who also never left the public’s mind. Among them we can mention Ursula, the villain of ‘The Little Mermaid’, Maleficent, of ‘Sleeping Beauty’, Captain Hook, of the feature film ‘Peter Pan’, and others. But do you know who was the first Disney villain?
RECREIO went after that information. Check it out below:
the first villain
In 1937, along with the release of ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’, Disney got its first villain, the Evil Queen, or Queen Grimhilde.
Grimhilde was the stepmother of the title character, Snow White, and during the plot, she tried to defeat Snow in several ways. One of the reasons for trying to end the princess was that the queen felt threatened due to the young woman’s exuberant beauty, given that the Bad was obsessed with being the most beautiful woman in the kingdom.
One of the tactics that the queen then used to eliminate her stepdaughter from the kingdom was to order a hunter to rip out the young girl’s heart. After the failed orderly attempt, Grimhilde herself decided to end Branca’s life.
It is worth remembering that ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ was the first animated film made by Disney, and became a milestone in the production company’s history.
More on ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’
In the documentary available on Disney+ entitled ‘Disney’s First Feature Film: The Creation of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’, a team of people involved in the production, researchers and historians comment on the relevance of the film.
In the production, the film historian Brian Sibley commented, “Snow White is the cornerstone because, everything that followed, every animated movie, the live-action productions, the theme parks, everything Disney did after that was based on that movie”.
The animation ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ took more than four years to produce, and its team involved around 300 artists
Another curious fact in the animation refers to the names of the seven dwarfs. With just under a year left for the film’s release, the characters who live with Snow White still didn’t have names.
In this regard, the historian Brian Sibley said: “A big problem that Walt Disney had was choosing the names of the dwarfs and what personalities he could assign to them”, and continued: “For a long time, Dopey was simply called ‘Seventh’. A list was drawn up of dozens of names that had potential, but only a handful ended up in the movie.”
Despite all that happened, ‘Branca de Neve’ is a successful production that passes from generation to generation.
