“Daily Show” correspondent Jordan Klepper has spent years at Donald Trump events talking to some of his biggest supporters, including many who believe in wild conspiracy theories.
“I continue to be surprised by these events, which should concern everyone,” former RNC chairman Michael Steele told MSNBC. “The fact that there are still ideas here that go beyond what we’ve already heard in many, many of these events worries me deeply.”
Klepper attended a Trump event in South Carolina over the weekend, where he found supporters who don’t believe Biden is really in charge; that has a fake presidential seal; that there are two armies, one of which is controlled by Trump; and that the war in Ukraine does not exist and the refugees fleeing the violence are its actors.
“There are people out there who will deny reality to their face,” he told Steele on Thursday.
Steele asked later in the segment if he had found that the views of Trump supporters had evolved.
“No, there is no evolution of ideas,” he said. “There is the devolution of ideas and that’s where the fear comes from.”
