“The Daily Show” guest host DL Hughley joked Wednesday about Vice President Kamala Harris’ historic attendance at the funeral of Tire Nichols, a black man who died last month after being beaten by police in Memphis, Tennessee.
It was “the first time a president or vice president attended the funeral of a black person killed by police,” Hughley noted.
“I’m glad it came out in black mode and not cop mode. I mean, he was a district attorney and that could have been a sting operation,” the comedian joked, referring to Harris’ time as San Francisco’s district attorney.
“Seriously, there’s a good reason to have a black vice president,” he added. “If you’re not going to do anything about police reform, at least you can get someone to go to those funerals.”
