We tested the first drying straightener that wants to revolutionize our hairdressing routine

ghd Duet Style promises to dry and smooth at the same time. ghd

The ghd Duet Style, a two-in-one device, promises to reinvent our mornings. Notice to those who straighten their hair every day.

This is the ride that excites anyone who follows a daily (or almost) hair straightening ritual. The ghd brand has just introduced its innovation, a hair straightener called Duet Style. In addition to this two-in-one active, the brand promises simultaneous drying and smoothing without damaging the hair, as well as double shine. With the new Airfusion technology that allows this double action (thanks to the convection and conduction system), this device is revolutionary and allows you to straighten wet hair. Indeed, it is usually necessary to pre-dry and then only go to the straightener stage.

Specifically, smart plates enable you to dry hair from root to tip, adjusting the temperature to respect hair’s natural hydration while smoothing. The second version of the device allows double straightening at a higher temperature (185°C) to make the lengths more shiny. And a 48-hour softness guarantee.

Our experience. After washing your hair, it is important to dry it with a towel. During this time, we turn on the Duet Style, the motor of which starts with the sound of the dryer, which can be surprising for a straightener, but is weaker than a regular hair dryer. After removing the excess water, we can take action. Go strand by strand, leaving the device at the roots for 3 seconds, then sliding down to the ends. The device is quite easy to handle but can be a bit heavy for long hair. Because it is necessary to go over the wick several times (about ten) so that it dries perfectly. Good point. There’s no frizz, no burning sensation or smell like you get when straightening wet hair. You can then activate the Shine ShotTM button after waiting a few seconds. Be careful, the temperature rises quickly and the gap between the two can be surprising, especially for fine hair. You can also combine it with the new Sleek Talker Smoothing Styling Oil to protect the fiber from heat.

The brand recommends using its Sleep Talker Styling Oil. GHD:

Finally, the hair lays down really nicely, and the wide layers allow you to take quite a lot of locks (we avoid the ends). On the other hand, there’s no real time savings compared to blow-drying first and then going through a straightener. Considering the price (€399), it might be worth it if you have to invest in two different devices and therefore combine to minimize costs. Or if you need to optimize your bathroom space. What if you want to have both in one, especially if you travel a lot?
