For his first feature film, Finnish director Aino Suni signs a psychological thriller set in the golden youth of the Côte d’Azur.
17-year-old Finnish rapper Elina is forced to leave her country to follow her mother and her new boyfriend to the south of France. Disoriented, vulnerable, he begins frequenting the golden youth of the Cote d’Azur and quickly bonds with Sofia, a charismatic ballerina who leads a double life of parties, boys and drugs. Fascinated by this new relationship, Elina sees this friendship turn into a power game with toxic and dangerous consequences. The story stretches around him like a spider’s web and falls into a spiral of obsession. How far will Elina go?
A psychological thriller
A teenage encounter can be life-changing. Co-produced by France, Germany and Finland, this psychological thriller depicts the initial transition to adulthood. It’s also a film about ambition, with the austere world of classical dance in stark contrast to the decadence of this privileged youth on the brutal Cote d’Azur.
“The friendship of two girls is one of the closest and most dependent relationships that exists. it’s like marriage. We share everything with his best friend, he becomes a part of us. Sometimes the line between friendship and romantic love can be blurred,” says director Aino Suni, whose first feature film, in a statement.
Featuring original compositions by JB Dunckel, one half of the electronic duo Air, pulse offers an attractive colorful aesthetic. The film stars Carmen Kasowitz, Elsie Sloan, Lucille Guillaume, Camille Chila, Adele Bensheriff… Release date: February 22, 2023.
