1. WHEN EVERYTHING HAPPENS

Furthermore, the main story originally takes place in 2033 in the game, unlike the series that anticipated the Ellie and Joel saga to 2023. This fact was explained by druckman in a statement to TechRadar, as the changes leave the plot facts in the same current time period and help “make the story more real”.

2. THE MILLER FAMILY

In the story presented in the game, it is exposed that Joel Miller, daughter Sarah and her brother Tommy, live in Austin, Texas. Already in the series, the origins of the characters gained an extra layer of depth, as the Millers are described as Latino descendants.

Despite being a small detail, the choice is consistent with the lineup of Pedro Pascal (Joel) and Gabriel Luna (Tommy), since like the characters, both have Latin origins.

3. NO MASKS

Unlike the game, in the series the characters do not need to wear masks, since in the adaptation the Cordyceps infection does not occur through spores in the air, but through tendrils (or tentacles) that grow in the infected and are transmitted through bites. , kissing or any form of close contact with the victims.

4. THE RELATIONSHIP OF BROTHERS

In the series, Joel searches for news about Tommy, as he has not known about his brother’s whereabouts for a few weeks. Already in the game, the brothers do not maintain any contact, in fact, the relationship between the two ended up suffering a separation when Tommy decided to join the revolutionary group Vagalumes.

5. TOMMY’S PAST

Tommy’s story is pretty hazy in the game, as no details about his past are revealed. But, in the series, Joel’s brother gains new information about what he did before working in the construction field, as it is revealed that he was a war veteran who was in the field in the Gulf War in the early 1990s.
