Angela Basset becomes first MCU actress to be nominated for an Oscar

This Tuesday, the 24th, Angela Bassetthad her name revealed by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as one of the nominees for the Oscar 2023. The actress competes for the trophy in the Best Supporting Actress category for having played Queen Romonda in ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’.

The fact made Basset became the first actress to compete for the award in that category for a hero movie developed by Marvel. In addition to the actress, will compete for the statuette Hong Chau (The whale), Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin), Jamie Lee Curtis and Stephanie hsu (both from ‘Everything Everywhere at the Same Time’).

In addition to Basset’s nomination, ‘Wakanda Forever’ can guarantee the trophy in 4 more categories: Best Original Song, Best Costume Design, Best Hair and Makeup and Best Visual Effects.
