Rumors emerged after the press reported that BLACKPINK’s contract termination is scheduled for August
This Monday, the 23rd, a new report by the Korean newspaper Munhwa Ilbo revealed that LisaBLACKPINK’s YG Entertainment will be offered KRW 100 billion (US$81 million) to leave YG Entertainment, the agency that takes care of the group and the idol’s solo career.
That’s because, BLACKPINK’s contract with YG ends in August of that year, so the girls will have to negotiate with the company whether or not to renew the contract. But, according to sector specialists, the task will not be easy, since, with the transformation of the group into a global star, the value of the contract has risen exponentially.
The same report states that in order for all members to remain in the agency, YG will have to offer at least 20 billion won (South Korean currency) in upfront payment per member. Still, the decision isn’t just about money, as the use of the group name ‘BLACKPINK’ is also at stake should the girls choose to switch companies.
Still, if the girlgroup leaves the company, the reflection on YG’s actions could be huge, as pointed out by M News Nate and from then on, the agency’s focus will be to promote BabyMonster, the newly announced girl group.
It is worth remembering that BLACKPINK was created in August 2016 by YG Entertainment. Composed by Jisoo, jennie, rosé and Lisa, the group will wrap up their current world tour in June. The girlgroup’s most recent comeback took place in September 2022, with the track “SHUT DOWN”, the title track of the group’s second full-album, “BORN PINK”.
