‘You People’ cast supports Jonah Hill, who is skipping the press due to mental health issues

Jonah Hill’s “You People” castmates have shared their support for the actor’s decision to not do press for the new Netflix film due to mental health issues.

Co-star Lauren London told Variety at the film’s Los Angeles premiere on Tuesday that “life is hard for all of us.”

“For us to pretend that we are stronger than others and that we can do more is unfair,” he said. “I have room for Jonah Hill. This is my boyfriend. I love him and whatever he has to do for his soul, I’m there for it.”

Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who plays Hill’s mother in the film, also supported her co-stars.

“You have to protect yourself and do what feels right for you,” she told the publication, adding that she tries not to put “too much importance” on publicity commitments.

David Duchovny, who plays Hill’s father on “You People,” told Variety, “It is [Hill’s] prerogative. I don’t want to print either. It is highly outsourced. Get out of yourself. It’s very surreal, but that’s just part of the game.”

“You People” also stars Eddie Murphy and Nia Long. Hill co-wrote the film with Kenya Barris, who directed the project.

Last month, Netflix released a teaser for the film that showed Hill’s character having an awkward lunch with his girlfriend’s (London) parents (Murphy and Long).

“Families and cultures collide as two Los Angeles millennials from diverse backgrounds fall in love and face the ultimate relationship test: meeting their parents,” reads a description of the film.

Hill announced in a statement to Deadline in August that he would not promote the 2022 Netflix documentary he directed, “Stutz,” which chronicles the life of psychiatrist Phil Stutz.

“Through this journey of self-discovery in the film, I have come to understand that I have spent nearly 20 years experiencing anxiety attacks that are exacerbated by media appearances and public events,” he said.

She later continued, “However, you won’t see me out there promoting this film or any of my future films as I take this important step to protect myself. If I’d rather get tired of going out there and promoting it, I wouldn’t be honest with myself or the film.”

Hill went on to acknowledge the privilege she had of being able to “afford to take a break” but that she hopes to “make it more normal for people to talk and act on these things.”
