Jeremy Clarkson attempts second public apology for Meghan Markle’s ‘appalling’ column

Jeremy Clarkson has attempted to publicly apologize for the “appalling” column he wrote about Meghan Markle in The Sun last month.

The “Clarkson’s Farm” host said in a new Instagram post on Monday that she emailed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to say she was “deeply sorry” for the column, in which she said she hated Duchess of Sussex” on a mobile phone. level” after the couple’s Netflix docu-series “Harry & Meghan”.

“I’m so sorry. From my feet to the follicles on my head,” the media personality said in her post. “This is me throwing up my hands. It’s a mea culpa with the bells on.”

The ‘Top Gear’ presenter’s column in The Sun was condemned as sexist and misogynistic for passengers as: “I can’t sleep at night as I sit there gritting my teeth and dreaming of the day she gets paraded”. Britain’s streets empty as crowds chant “Shame!” and throw lumps of excrement into it”.

He offered no apology last month.

“Aoleu. I’d rather put my foot on it,” he wrote further Twitter at the time. He acknowledged that his “awkward reference to a scene from Game of Thrones” “went down with a lot of people” but did not specifically apologize.

Monday’s effort was an attempt to be more comprehensive. He explained that he didn’t let anyone read what he wrote before submitting it for publication, so he was horrified.

“I couldn’t believe what I was reading. Did I really say that? It was awful,” she said. “I immediately understood what happened. I was thinking of a scene from Game of Thrones but forgot to mention it. So it looked like they were actually calling for outrageous violence to rain down on Meghan.”

“I was mortified and so was everyone else. My phone went crazy. Very close friends were furious. Even my daughter took to Instagram to report me,” she said. Two of his employers – ITV and Amazon Prime Video – “were in the red”, he said.

“So I wrote to everyone who works with me saying how sorry I was, then on Christmas morning I emailed Harry and Meghan in California to apologize too. I said I was confused by what they were saying on TV, but that the language I used in my column was shameful and that I was deeply sorry.”

The Sun apologized after the column was published and removed what became the most complained about article in the history of Britain’s Independent Press Standards Organisation.

At the time, a representative for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s Archewell organization dismissed the publication’s apology as “nothing more than a publicity stunt”.

“The fact that The Sun has not contacted the Duchess of Sussex to apologise, shows their intentions,” the spokesperson said in an exclusive statement to HuffPost. “A real apology would be a change in their coverage and ethical standards for everyone. Unfortunately, we’re not holding our breath.”

A spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex confirmed to HuffPost on Monday that Clarkson had indeed made contact, but only with Prince Harry.

“Although Mr Clarkson issued a new public apology today, what remains to be addressed is his long-standing pattern of writing articles that spread hateful rhetoric, dangerous conspiracy theories and misogyny,” the representative said.

“Unless all of his other pieces were written ‘in haste,’ as he says, it’s clear that this is not an isolated incident shared in haste, but rather a series of hatefully shared articles,” they she added.

Variety reported Monday that Amazon Prime Video has parted ways with Clarkson after years of working together. The company did not provide details when contacted by HuffPost on Monday.
