The charming cottage that Kate Winslet lives in in the Christmas rom-com has been available on Airbnb for more than a year … and now it’s a victim of its own success.
When they bought the cabin, they didn’t know what it represented. John Bromley, 58, and his wife Cressida, 52, spotted this tiny house in Surrey in a property magazine in 2019. Then they acquired it and moved there. They pose for photos in front of their picturesque micro-fence with a sign before spotting passers-by honeysuckle cottage.
Cameron Diaz in the video. “The French are more comfortable talking about sex than we are”
The house, christened “The Honeysuckle”, is none other than the one that appears in the popular Christmas romantic comedy; The holiday (2006), directed by Nancy Meyers. In the film, he is the subject of “home exchange”. Kate Winslet’s character living there is a few days behind Cameron Diaz’s character living in the Los Angeles villa. After 17 years, John and Cressida decided to rent out the cottage on Airbnb for £295 (€333) a night.
“The prettiest, tiniest, most English cottages”
However, the chalet owned by the duo is not exactly what we see in the film. For The holidaythe producer was really looking for “the prettiest, tiniest, most English cottages you could find,” he revealed in the DVD’s credits.
Bingo: it was in the village of Holmbury St Mary in Surrey that the film crew found their happiness. Except that the tiny house was a long way from London (67 km), the home of the production, and so was recreated brick by brick in a studio in the British capital. This rustic home, John and Cressida’s so-so iconic home, has three bedrooms and offers views of the surrounding Surrey hills, which can be admired from the flagstone terrace.
A village away from it all…or almost
In The holidayAmanda Woods, who was camped by Cameron Diaz, just broke up with her boyfriend. A hard worker, she wants to get out into the great outdoors, away from everything, especially men, as the holidays approach. So he decides to leave Los Angeles on a whim and land in the English countryside. Although Iris, the owner of the cabin, played by Kate Winslet, has assured her that there are no men around, she will not be alone for long. Very quickly Graham, the brother of Iris played by Jude Law, knocks on her door… And they fall in love.
It’s enough to make you want to hibernate there and curl up under the trellis in the corner of one of the chalet’s fireplaces. But you’ll have to wait for good weather to rent this cottage, a victim of its own success. Most of the dates offered in January and February are essentially already booked.
In the video, Kate Winslet and her daughter Mia Tripleton cry in the trailer of I Am Ruth.
