Jimmy Kimmel blasted Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) Friday night for giving up a “kidney” in his desperate bid to become Speaker of the House.
McCarthy was defeated in the 14th House vote Friday night and was another loser during the monologue on “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” Only later did he shout victory on the 15th vote.
“Kevin McCarthy made headway today by opening a concession stand, offering concession after concession,” Kimmel joked as he put the shop up for bids on his work.
To get votes, McCarthy “had to come up with something to offer these people,” Kimmel smiled. “I think he’ll be fine with a kidney; most donors go on to lead very healthy and very productive lives.”
McCarthy lost repeatedly even though he had no real candidate against him, Kimmel noted. He came down to bat in all those moments “running against himself,” Kimmel said.
“It’s like the guy, your friend at the bachelor party, who gets beat so badly at the blackjack table that you start thinking about calling his wife,” Kimmel joked.
Kimmel also noted the second anniversary of the insurrection and tied it to the chaos America just witnessed in the House.
“Two years ago today, Donald Jennifer Trump tried to grab the wheel of our democracy and push it into a big, beautiful wall,” she said. “And things in Congress have gone very well since then.”
