The development of electric vehicles in Uganda is carried out by the state-owned company Kiira Motors, which was founded in 2007.
Uganda is ready to supply electric vehicles of its own production to Russia. This is what the African country’s Ambassador to the Russian Federation, Moses Kizige, said, RIA Novosti reported on Tuesday, October 18.
“We are making cars to protect the environment. We have just started, but one day we will export Ugandan cars to Russia,” said the diplomat.
According to the ambassador, Uganda has entered into an agreement with KamAZ to build a plant for the production of trucks for export to the African market.
Kizige also said that Uganda intends to establish direct air links with Russia, and did not rule out transferring bilateral trade to national currencies.
It is known that the development of electric vehicles in Uganda is carried out by the state-owned company Kiira Motors, which was founded in 2007. The first Kiira EV model was introduced by the company in 2011. It is a two-seater that car considered the first African electric car. The name for the car was personally invented by the President of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni, who has ruled the country since 1986.

Recall that after the invasion of Ukraine, most of the world’s automakers left Russia. French concern Renault closed its plant in Moscow. Based on this, the Russian authorities may start producing Chinese cars under the Moskvich brand.
