Heavy haul and public transport carriers can now register their claims for a 40 percent fare refund. Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC).
These requests can be made through a mobile application called “Peaje 40”. But what requirements do I need to meet and how can I request a refund?
How do I know if I am applying for this refund?
Fabian Susanibar, CEO of MTC’s Ground Transportation Permits Division, told RPP that
“These requirements are the presence of an electronic mailbox of the Ministry of Transport, access to the list of drivers of the ministry, presentation of payment documents according to the established schedule, the presence of qualification ranks as of August 13, and they must have an active status in the unified register of tax payers,” the official commented.
In addition to this, the MTC specifies that the standard covers Business which have up to 15 cargo vehicles and up to 50 intended for the transport of people.
How to request a refund?
To start the process, the carrier must download the Toll 40 app. There you must enter your identification number, which must be registered in the MTS driver list.
After that, a message will appear on the screen warning that the registered information is a sworn statement, and the home screen of the application will open, which will display the data of the user, company, volume, type of service.
One option would allow drivers to register proof of payment duties.
“The app will allow the carrier to take a photo of the fare receipt and that document will be uploaded to their registry. According to the calendar later, they can issue a corresponding request when the deadline ends, ”
The MTS representative clarified that after the application is made, they have 15 days to pay this benefit to the carrier.
Will the measure be extended?
The measure will apply from 1 September to 31 December, however some transport unions have warned that an extension of at least 12 months will be needed to help cut costs in the sector.
For now, the Department of Transportation indicates that this will remain under evaluation.
“This measure is just beginning, so it will be subject to evaluation (…) the impact and perception of this system by carriers will be constantly evaluated,” commented Fabian Susanibar.
It is worth noting that, according to National Union of Carrierstransport companies spend between 14% and 16% of their annual income on tolls.
