The presentation of the first report on Ukraine’s needs for post-war reconstruction took place.
Ukraine needs more than 100 billion dollars to finance the country’s life for urgent needs. This was announced on Friday, September 9, by Prime Minister Denys Shmygal at the presentation of the RDNA report, held in Brussels.
It was also attended by Vice President of the European Commission Maros Sefcovic and Vice President of the World Bank for Europe and Central Asia Annv Bjord.
According to Shmyhal, for the near future, the priority is the immediate restoration of social infrastructure, preparation for the upcoming winter, urgent repairs, purchase of gas, and restoration of important transportation routes.
“With joint efforts, we have already started reconstruction in the occupied Ukrainian territories, however, the restoration requires a joint approach and the mobilization of common resources of the Ukrainian government and international partners. The assessment of the destruction and recognition of the needs for restoration, which we present today, lays a solid foundation for the national Recovery Plan and is a prerequisite for its effective financing,” said the head of government.
According to him, only for the first stage – rapid recovery – 17 billion dollars are needed, of which Ukraine needs 3.4 billion in the next three months. “We hope for such support and call on our partners from the G7 and the EU, the IMF and the World Bank to support the relevant recovery projects now,” said Shmyhal.
Overall, according to a June 1 estimate, $349 billion is needed to restore Ukraine. The prime minister urged to update the report on a regular basis.
“The EU is not suffering the same sacrifices as Ukraine, but we are mobilizing all our tools to provide urgent needs, including housing for internally displaced people and rebuilding infrastructure Since the beginning of Russia’s brutal and illegal war of aggression against Ukraine, the EU has mobilized 10 billion euros in funding, humanitarian, emergency and military aid for Ukraine. There are plans to allocate another 5 billion euros in funding. The EU will go every step with Ukraine in restoring a democratic, independent and prosperous country to the European Union,” said European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
President Volodymyr Zelensky recently said that the restoration of Ukraine after the war against the Russian Federation will cost 600-800 billion dollars.
