Naftogaz announces new arbitration against Gazprom

The Russian monopolist has been violating the “pump or pay” rule of the gas agreement for more than three months.

Ukraine’s Naftogaz has filed a petition for arbitration against Russian Gazprom at the International Court of Arbitration. The NAC press service reported this on Friday, September 9.

“Naftogaz is demanding funds from Gazprom for the provided service for organizing the transportation of natural gas through the territory of Ukraine, which was not paid to them on time and in full,” the report said.

The head of the company, Yuri Vitrenko, noted that since May, Gazprom has been violating the “pump or pay” terms of the contract.

“We demand from Gazprom to pay in full. As specified in the contract,” he wrote on Facebook.

Naftogaz is also examining the possibility of announcing additional conditions to Gazprom.

“Although arbitration is always a complicated and long process, I believe that Naftogaz will repeat the success of Stockholm 2019. And Ukraine will definitely win too!” added Vitrenko.

Naftogaz announced the start of pre-arbitration proceedings against Gazprom at the end of May.

It should be noted that a few days before the Russian invasion, Naftogaz started arbitrage on missing assets in Crimea.
