It is indicated that the two power units of this nuclear power plant – No. 3 and No. 4 – has been built according to the Soviet VVER-440 project since the late 1980s. Ukraine now operates two such nuclear reactors at the Rovno nuclear power plant.
“After the disaster at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, the construction of the third and fourth power units in the 1990s at the Slovak nuclear power plant Mochovce was frozen at a high level of readiness. The same happened with power units No. 3 and No. 4 at the Khmelnytsky nuclear power plant in Ukraine,” the message said.
After a long pause of more than a quarter of a century, Slovakia, with the participation of world companies and the use of modern Western technologies, resumed the construction of these power units.
“Mochovce-3 became the first power unit in Europe to be completed and put into operation in the last 30 years. Another feature of the completed power units of the Slovak NPP is that they are equipped with anti-aircraft protection , providing the most critical NPP destruction zones,” added Energoatom.
It is expected that the next European country to launch new power units will be Ukraine with Khmelnytsky NPP.
Earlier it was reported that Germany will extend the operation of two nuclear power plants – Neckarwestheim and Isar 2. They are in standby mode. Nuclear power plants will be activated if there is a crisis situation.
