Peru’s annual inflation fell to 8.80% in August, according to a recent report from the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics.ERI).
This slowdown in inflation, which stood at 9.28% in July, comes despite the fact that the consumer price index rose 0.62% nationally last month.
The indicator falls for the second month in a row and is lower than the increase in prices recorded in the previous two months, declining from the maximum levels inflation Registered until June.
Although the difference is smaller, inflation continues to stay above the official Central Reserve Bank (BCR) target range of between 1% and 3%.
In addition, the date ERI indicates that just so far in 2022, from January to August, inflation rose to 6.30% across the country.
In the case of Lima alone, annual inflation in Lima was set at 8.40%, while a month ago the CPI was reported to be at 8.74%.
In August, a drop in wholesale prices was also recorded at the national level, as inflation it rose from 12.60% in July to 10.26% last month.

Goods that have increased their prices and those that have lowered them
According to the INEI report, the highest price increases were recorded in the categories of food and non-alcoholic beverages (1.37%), housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (1.07%), and restaurants and hotels (0. 68%).
The largest increase was observed in products such as tuna, gutted chicken, residential electricity, private university tuition fees, and yellow potatoes.
On the other hand, the categories that saw price declines were Communications (0.10%) and Transport (0.55%).
In the case of transport, the sector in which the price index fell the most, it is indicated that this was due to the fall in world oil prices.
The products that fell the most in August were gasoline, pass home air, carrots, strawberries and chicken eggs.
Cities with the highest price increase
In August, inflation rose more than the national average in the cities of Chiclayo, Ica, Cajamarca, Huaraz, Chachapoyas, Iquitos, Metropolitan Lima, Chimbote and Arequipa. They reported a price index ranging from 0.64% to 0.94%.
But, if we take into account the annual averages, from September 2021 to August 2022 cities with the highest inflation rates are Huaraz, Cerro de Pasco and Puerto Maldonado.
In Huaraz, inflation reaches 12.43%, in Cerro de Pasco – 11.53%, and in Puerto Maldonado – 11.25%. Other cities with high annual inflation are Chachapoyas (10.98%), Cusco (10.25%) in the mountains; Chiclayo (10.33%), Ica (10.30%) and Tacna (10.16%).
