Fertiabono will support only 5% of farmers in the country, says the former director of Agro Rural.

Economist Marco Vinelli Ruiz, director of ESAN with a master’s degree in agribusiness and a former director of Agro Rural, estimated this Thursday that Fertiabono would only support 5% of the country’s farmers, i.e. 90,000 agricultural producers.

In an interview program News extension from PTRMarco Vinelli commented on the creation of the aforementioned cash support for the purchase of fertilizers until June 30, 2023 for small agricultural producers processing up to 10 hectares.

“According to the money available to the government, to be able to deliver this FertiabonusTentatively they will be able to serve about 90,000 farmers, in Peru we know 2,200,000 farmers, which means that they will serve less than 5% of farmers,” he said.

Marco Vinelli Ruiz qualified Fertiabonus as an “ace in the hole” and believed that it was important for the sector. In addition, he clarified that the financial support ranges from 700 soles per hectare to 9,000 soles in general.

“The main idea behind this bonus is that they can buy fertilizer in a way that helps them do much better and more orderly planting without sacrificing productivity,” he said.

Urea will arrive in November

On the other hand, Marco Vinelli Ruiz said that urea will reach farmers in November if the government completes the third attempt to negotiate and sign the purchase of these fertilizers.

“Urea will be in Peru in 60 or 70 days, we are already talking about the month of November, and by this time the campaign will have already been three or three and a half months. farmers they plant on those dates,” he said.

The day before, Prime Minister Anibal Torres said that urea could be delivered in September, despite the fact that the last selected company offered to supply the first batch of carbamide within 44 days; that is, if a good pro is signed now, the fertilizer will only be delivered in October.

“We must recognize that in acquiring urea there were failures, since they remained without effect (tenders) up to three times (…) probably the urea will arrive in the month of September. There are versions that this tender will also fall, but the last one will not fall,” the prime minister said on Wednesday.
