Berlin needs to operate SP-2 to fill gas storage facilities for the winter, said Free Democratic Party Vice Speaker Wolfgang Kubicki.
Germany’s ruling coalition has called for the opening of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline to fill Russia’s gas storage facilities for the winter. This was said by the Vice Speaker of the Bundestag from the Free Democratic Party, Wolfgang Kubiki, in an interview with RND.
“We must open Nord Stream 2 as soon as possible to fill our gas storage facilities for the winter. There is no good reason not to open Nord Stream 2,” he said.
The politician believes that if Germany, in this way, “reaches more gas … it will help people not to freeze in winter,” and German industry will not suffer serious damage.
According to him, these tasks are top priorities for the federal government.
“When the gas storage tanks are full, we will be able to close Nord Stream 2 again,” he said.
Cubicki also thought that securing more gas would be more beneficial for Germany than for Putin.
“By the way, the biggest success of Putin’s propaganda is if we run out of gas while he is still making good money from us. It must be stopped,” he said.
Germany has suspended the commissioning of the completed Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline due to Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Currently, Russia provides only 20% of the possible volume of gas through Nord Stream 1.
Russian Gazprom blames technical reasons for this, the German government believes that the Russian Federation itself is creating problems.
