After the outbreak of war, investments in agriculture stopped, industrial development was set back in those years.
The war with Russia has set Ukrainian agriculture back for many years, said Mykola Solsky, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food, in an interview with Forbes.
“The war set back the industry for many years. Farmers kept updating equipment, invested in something new, it stopped and won’t resume any time soon. Even though the war ends tomorrow, it takes some time to make such decisions, to be mentally prepared for it. “he said..
The minister named three things needed to bring investors back to agribusiness:
-
an insurance system for businesses operating in war conditions;
-
effective judicial protection;
-
opening the European market of Ukrainian products on a permanent basis.
“In the fall, we will start developing a roadmap in the EU, which will clearly state: in two years we will cancel these duties, and in three years – these. This will allow Ukrainian businesses to plan investments,” Solsky said.
The head of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy noted that the harvest during the war was not worse than the average in previous years.
It should be noted that during the sowing campaign in 2022, 14.16 million hectares of land were sown during the war – this is 83.7% of the figures for the previous year (16.92 million hectares). As of August 12, farmers have already harvested 20.8 million tons of grain, while the forecast is 65-67 million tons.
