The fifth power unit at the RNPP with a capacity of 1100 MW will be built according to American AP1000 technology.
A new power unit will be built at the Rivne nuclear power plant, which is planned to be commissioned in 2032, the press service of Energoatom reports.
The 1,100 MW unit will be built using Westinghouse’s American AP1000 technology.
To date, a number of pre-project works have been completed, in particular, an analysis of the existing and expected use of water resources in the area where the nuclear power plant is located, an analysis of the existing RNPP infrastructure and interconnections in the western region of Ukraine’s energy system.
Pre-project work was also carried out to determine the strict geological conditions for the selection of a power unit.
It has been mentioned the need to build power unit No. 5 of the RNPP caused the need to replace the capacities of power units No. 1, 2, the extension of service life which expires in 2030-2031.
Recall that in the summer of last year, the Ministry of Energy announced that nine new nuclear power units will be built in Ukraine.
The first to be built are two units at the Khmelnitsky NPP with a total capacity of 2 GW. The expected investment in this project is $14 billion.
