Exports in 17 regions of the country increased in January-June this year due to rising world prices and the development of new projects such as Mina Justa in Ica, the head Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Minchetur)Robert Sanchez.

At the same time, at least ten regions will close the year with record shipments to the world. Cusco, Arequipa, Ica, Ancash and La Libertad stand out in the group as they contribute the most to the country’s foreign trade.

According to the minister, “export is the highest in history”.

Jungle regions lead national exports

According to the June 2022 regional trade report prepared by Mincetur during the first semester, the regions with the largest volume of shipments to the world are located in the jungle.

The increase in shipments abroad from the jungle was mainly driven by higher sales of coffee (167%) and palm oil (126%), goods whose international prices rose by more than 50% in the first half of the year compared to the same period in 2021.

Exports of timber (65%), gold (38%) and Brazil nuts (17%) also increased.

Sales of cocoa and derivatives, mostly related to jungle areas, were $135 million, up 10% from the same period in 2021.

Same way, The report elaborates that the southern regions of Peru increased their shipments to the world by 21% in the first half of 2022.due to higher sales of natural gas and minerals.

Shipments are optimized

The southern regions that increased their exports the most were Cusco (107%), due to increased sales of natural gas (388%); and Arequipa (35%) due to increased sales of molybdenum (155%) and copper (39%).

In addition, the northern regions of the country increased their shipments in the first half of the year by 12% as a result of increased sales of non-metallic minerals, agricultural products and hydrocarbons. The districts of Tumbes (30%) stood out for their greater sales of shrimp; Áncash (11%) due to increased exports of zinc (28%); freedom (12%) due to increased sales of blueberries (118%); and Piura (17%).
