According to him, even before the war, the UDP was in debt to the Serbian company NIS Gazprom Neft, which was engaged in the bunkering of the fleet. Then the company had no problem with it and no complaints were made.
But with the outbreak of war, the situation changed. The company turned to the shipping company with a request to return the money, but UDP reported that they could not do so due to sanctions. The majority owner of NIS Gazprom Neft is Russian Gazprom Neft, and deals with Russian state-owned companies are prohibited.
At the end of June, one of the UDP courts was detained in Serbian Veliko Gradishte. So it became known that NIS Gazprom Neft got a pre-trial decision to arrest the UDP fleet. According to Moskalenko, the company was not notified about this in the manner prescribed by Serbian law. “Thus, the company temporarily missed the opportunity to work not only on the Serbian section, but also on the Danube,” he said.
In August alone, the company’s lawyers managed to remove the arrest from more than 20 vessels of the Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company. Two other ships are detained in Serbian ports.
UDP plans to sue NIS Gazprom Neft with a demand to be compensated for damages related to fleet demurrage.
“There is no doubt that the attack launched by Russia on the UDP is part of the economic aggression. The enemy tried to hinder our work to disrupt the export of agricultural products of Ukraine. They just did not expect us to be able to redeploy the fleet to the Lower Danube very quickly,” said Moskalenko. .
He also added that collaborators, including representatives of the former UDP leadership, were helping to block the company’s ships.
As you know, due to the blocking of ports and the Black Sea, Ukraine has increased the supply of agricultural products along the Danube. In just one month, about 70 merchant ships passed through the mouth of the Bystry.
